Cube Workspace was delighted to extend an invitation to all their Cape Town Clients to attend The Independent Institute of Education’s (IIE) Business School Leadership and People Management workshop.
We are firm believers in the importance of development to drive economic growth in South Africa. Just as the IIE plays a crucial role in developing the next generation of business leaders, we, at Cube Workspace, strive to deliver the premium serviced office space solution so that our clients can focus on growing their business.
The IIE Leadership and People Management workshop was delivered by Leigh Bowden, who is known amongst her colleagues and friends as being passionate about education.
Leigh covered a variety of fascinating subjects starting with the importance of organisational behaviour; as it is the analysis of understanding the many influencing factors that affect organisational behaviour. She likened it to an iceberg; what goes on under the sea could well be the sinking of the company. The workshop was interactive and there was discussion around flat versus hierarchical organisational structures.
Clear, consistent communication and constructive feedback fosters an environment that embraces innovation. Leigh explained the importance of diversity in the workplace which ranges beyond race and gender; it expands into attitudes and personalities. Human capital is the greatest asset to a company and, therefore, the optimisation of the workforce is key.
Most interesting was the importance of emotional intelligence in the workforce. Workers with high EQ are better able to work in teams, adjust to change and be flexible. There are four main attributes to EQ: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.
Is money a motivator for employees? This links to the extent to which money is valued and to the extent to which it can be used as a motivator. This topic lead to a very interesting exercise during which the attendees completed a values assessment. Money as a motivator is very dependent on what values drive an individual.
Cube Workspace clients found great value from the workshops and Cynthia Ngcobo from Ascot Wealth Management, a Cube Workspace client, had this to say. “Thank you for affording Ascot the opportunity to attend the workshop. It was informative and I thoroughly enjoyed Leigh’s facilitating skills, her depth knowledge on the topic and the way she delivered the content with passion and zeal throughout the day.”
