We’ve all struggled to keep our energy levels up and find motivation to work throughout the long, dark, and cold winter months.
Winter is an excellent time to prioritize productivity measures to stay motivated and engaged despite the colder weather and shorter days.
Here are some pointers to help you tackle the winter productivity dip:
- Set short-term goals and objectives
The winter weather may seem endless, but your goals don’t have to be! Establish short-term goals that you can focus on and fulfil during this chilly time of year. Short-term goals will provide you with direction, drive, and motivation to work. You’ll also benefit from the dopamine released when you complete the task at hand.
- Ramp up the incentives
Finding motivation to work can be hard! Make use of entertaining and healthy reward systems to combat the winter blues. Buying more plants for the office or your workstations to provide some greenery is a great start.
These aren’t long-term solutions to the impacts of winter on productivity, but they can assist in alleviating stress and enhance your motivation to work throughout the winter months.
- Declutter your space
Use the cold weather as an excuse to stay inside and arrange your workspace! This isn’t limited to your physical area; go to work on cleaning up your computer’s files and emails in your inbox, and finally, unsubscribe from all those spam emails.
- Stay active
While the cold is a good reason for wanting to hibernate, staying active can help decrease stress and combat the winter blues. Here are a few suggestions for finding motivation to work by staying physically and mentally active during winter:
• Eat your lunch outside (rather than at your desk!).
• Do some stretches as often as you can.
• During breaks, read a book.
- Make fun plans
While the temptation to become a hermit is strong this time of year, don’t fall into an antisocial slump. Make it a point to see people you care about and participate in activities that interest you. Winter is an excellent time to be indoors, engaging in cultural activities that may replenish your mental and emotional energies.
- Eat healthily
Eating healthy doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself; just make sure you eat a well-balanced meal and foods that give you energy. You’ll eventually appreciate how good you feel after eating nutritional food, and your body will thank you for it as well.
- Get enough sleep
Make the most of the warm weather. Since winter is the cold and flu season, make sure you do one of the most important things for staying healthy and reducing illness—sleep!
When you’re feeling those winter blues, it’s helpful to keep these tips in mind to help you find the motivation to work, and make the most of the season while sipping on a hot Cube Café Cappuccino!
